A Barnoldswick school has worked with a local artist to create a display of 3D book characters.
Papier mache 3D models of popular characters such as the Gruffalo, Hungry Caterpillar and Elmer the Patchwork Elephant now adorn the walls of the entrance to the infants building at Gisburn Road Primary School.
The work by the school’s reception, year one and year two children and their parents is now on display after months of planning and work with local artist Jacqui Smith.
“We decided to revamp the infants building,” said assistant headteacher Nick Browne. “The parents and children worked in small groups with Jacqui to make 3D characters and she painted the backgrounds on the wall.
“The children loved taking part and making suggestions on stories we could use. It also fits well into our literacy curriculum.”
