Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust to lead walk around Stainforth
9:00am Sunday 20th October 2013 in News
The Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust will lead a walk through the countryside surrounding Stainforth on Thursday.
The moderate four-mile walk will take in Catrigg Force, Winskill Stones and Stainforth Foss where it is hoped walkers may be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of the salmon leaping on the River Ribble as they swim upstream.
The walk also includes a short talk by Tom Lord at the Lower Winskill Visitor Centre to learn about the local landscape and wildlife, and to view an exhibition about the nearby Victoria Cave, an important site of geological and archeological interest.
The walk will be led by the trust’s deputy director Dave Tayler, who will also highlight some of the projects the trust has supported.
Walkers should meet at 10am in Stainforth car park and it is expected that the walk will take approximately three-and-a-half hours.
It includes some moderate climbs, and some paths are rocky and may be muddy or slippery, so appropriate footwear is required. It is also recommended that walkers bring a drink, snack and warm, waterproof clothing in case of adverse weather.
There is no charge to join the walk, however donations would be appreciated.
Booking is essential and places can be reserved by calling (01524) 251002 or e-mailing firstname.lastname@example.org by noon on Wednesday.
