The local branch of the Campaign for Real Ale (Camra) celebrated cider month at the New Inn and Craven Arms pubs in Appletreewick.
“I can’t believe we haven’t thought of it before,” said a Camra spokesman. “Appletreewick is the obvious place for a cider festival, with both pubs in the village always selling at least one real cider.”
In addition to their usual Weston’s Old Rosie cider, the New Inn also had a cider called Monty’s Double from Burnards Cider in Norfolk and a Side-R flavoured with blackcurrant from Glebe Farm.
The Craven Arms’ regular ciders are from Ampleforth Abbey in Yorkshire and a Welsh Farmhouse cider and, for cider month, these were supplemented by two additions, one from Cornwall and one called Rosie’s Pig from Westons. These ciders will remain on sale while stocks last.
Over the weekend both pubs had apple and cider-inspired dishes on the menu. The Craven Arms also had a cider press on display and said it intended to use it in future to make some cider.
Both pubs were presented with a Real Cider Sold Here sticker.
