Pupils at Bentham Primary School get on track with reading
8:00am Monday 28th October 2013 in News
Pupils at High Bentham School are zooming around a racetrack.
They are taking part in the Reading Race Challenge, where, for each book they read, they move around a track.
The initiative is aimed at encouraging youngsters to read – and it certainly seems to be working. Pupil Jessica Louise Parker said: “I love it. I read aloud at home at least three times a week to move round the track.
“My favourite book at the moment is Mr Grimm. It’s a great adventure story about a school catcher that captures boys and girls.”
Headteacher Catherine Boocock said staff were thrilled by the children’s reaction to the challenge: “The way that children and their parents are working together is proving invaluable. The competition is very fierce and I wouldn’t like to predict an individual, or class, winner.”
