Settle Primary School children have launched their own countdown to the Rugby World Cup.

New seven-metre-high rugby posts went up on the school field last week and the school is organising a raffle to win tickets to Twickenham for a Six Nations game.

“We are already getting excited about England hosting the 2015 Rugby World Cup,” said headteacher Richard Wright.

The new posts have been paid for by The Friends of Settle Primary School and safety padding around the posts has been financed through a donation from Settle Rotary Club.

Mr Wright said: “We are very grateful to the Friends of Settle Primary School and the Rotary Club for their kind contribution which helped make it possible for us to have the posts and to the RFU for providing us with Six Nations tickets.”

The school, one of the first in the country to receive the RFU Schools Development Award, is raising money for Jack’s Journey brain tumour research, in support of local youngster Jack Lambert, by raffling tickets to the England v Ireland game at Twickenham on February 22.
