They may be footsore – but the efforts of eight intrepid fundraisers from Skipton and Harrogate will pay for a much-needed break for the growing number of people in Yorkshire who look after a loved one.

They competed in the inaugural Plusnet Yorkshire Marathon and raised more than £6,300 for the Carers’ Resource which has an office at Broughton.

The Skipton team featured brothers Chris and Steve Pugh and Sam Boatwright and the five runners from Harrogate were Fran Tagg, Simon Cotton, Stewart Owen, Mark Sanderson and Debs Lester.

Carers’ Resource events and fundraising coordinator Anne Wells said: “The money will be used to give both adults and young carers the chance to escape the day-to-day stress and pressures they face looking after a family member or friend.

“It will help fund everything from short breaks to pamper days – something which we know makes a huge and positive difference to their own health and well-being.”
