A resubmitted plan for nine new homes at the top of The Bailey, Skipton, has been given the green light.
Craven’s District Council’s planning committee gave the go-ahead to an application by JN Bentley Ltd to build nine houses at High Trees, on Rectory Lane.
The development, made of three, four and five-bedroom homes, includes 18 parking spaces and nine garages.
Planning officer Mark Moore told the committee: “The overall density of the development has been spaced out. It fits into the surroundings and works a lot better.
“The existing house will be demolished and no affordable housing is required.
“The revised scheme is an improvement,” said Coun Alan Sutcliffe (Cons). “It will be a good development that will enhance the top end of Skipton High Street.”
Although he was not against the plan, Coun Paul English said: “Young families are not going to get anywhere near the deposit to be able to afford one of the five-bedroom homes. What we need are family houses.”
Coun Alan Sutcliffe said: “It’s a prominent site and is not appropriate for affordable housing.”
