Shoppers in Barnoldswick are invited to take part in the Festive Fandango.

The initiative is part of Pendle Council’s Celebrate What’s Great campaign, which is being launched this weekend to coincide with Small Business Saturday, a national promotion to support local independent shops for one day.

The Festive Fandango – which also covers Colne and Nelson – aims to persuade shoppers to spend locally by giving them the chance to win a hamper of gifts and experiences worth over £500.

Throughout December, customers of independent shops in the three towns will receive a sticker every time they spend £5 or more – and once they have collected five stickers on a special Festive Fandango postcard, they will be entitled to a voucher book packed full of offers and will be entered into a free draw to win the hamper.

Coun Joe Cooney, leader of Pendle Council, said: “If every Pendle resident spent £5 of their weekly shopping bill in the borough’s independent shops rather than online or in a big multiple, it would bring in a staggering £19 million a year to the local economy.”

Around 50 local businesses have signed up to take part and a full list can be found at pendle.gov.uk/celebratewhatsgreat Shoppers can hand in their completed Festive Fandango postcards at the Rainhall Centre in Barnoldswick, Colne Town Hall and The ACE Centre in Nelson.
