Grandfather Richard Seed senior had split loyalties as he proudly watched two of his grandchildren, cousins Rachel Harrison and Richard Seed, battle it out in Gisburn Auction Marts’ young handlers gimmer lamb show.

Top prize went to 16-year-old Rachel, a member of Slaidburn Young Farmers Club and pupil at Nelson and Colne College, who earlier in the day had picked up a first prize rosette in the 12 to 16-year-old age group class, with her Zwartbles cross Jacob gimmer lamb. Her lamb later sold for £110 to Clapham Brothers, of Sowerby Bridge.

Cousin Richard Seed, vice chairman of Chipping Young Farmers and pupil at Newman College, won the reserve champion award and first prize rosette in the 17 to 27-year-old age group class with his Beltex gimmer lamb. It sold for £110 to Tim Jackson, of Goosnargh.
