There is a warm welcome awaiting visitors to Embsay.

Two new signs have been erected on the Skipton Road and Eastby approaches to the village with a message encouraging safe driving.

The project has been funded through Section 106 money relating to the Tannery development which had been earmarked for local road and safety improvements.

“It had been pointed out to the parish council that the main entrances to our villages were far too discrete and uninviting, giving out an unrepresentative message, especially to visitors,” said Coun Bryan Hume, a member of the road safety working party.

“It was also the view of the road safety expert we commissioned several years ago that a more dramatic gateway entrance could improve road safety by reminding drivers that they are entering a village and they should therefore reduce their speed.

“We hope the aesthetic improvements to the entrances will also enhance the pride our local residents have in the appearance and upkeep of their villages.”
