A 23-year-old Skipton man has been given a 12-month suspended prison sentence after admitting dangerous driving on the A59.

James Boyd was also ordered to carry out 200 hours unpaid work, handed a two-month curfew and banned from driving for two years by a judge at Bradford Crown Court.

Boyd, of Willow Way, admitted dangerous driving on the A59 between Elslack and Broughton on March 17 when he appeared at Skipton Magistrates Court last month.

Magistrates, who imposed an interim driving ban on Boyd, heard evidence from two drivers on the A59 at the same time who described Boyd’s manner of driving as “suicidal”.

One witness said Boyd had come up behind him with his full-beam lights on despite it being in the afternoon.

He described how Boyd had overtaken him on a roundabout, made an emergency stop in front of him and had eventually lost control of his Vauxhall Astra, spinning it close to the entrance of The Bull pub.

Boyd will also have to take an extended driving test if he wishes to drive again following his ban.
