Residents learn how Tour will affect Silsden

More than 70 people attended a meeting in Silsden to find out how the Tour de France was likely to affect the town.
Bradford Council’s emergency planning officer Mike Powell outlined what was currently known about next summer’s cycle race.
Silsden town councillor Adrian Naylor said local people voiced several concerns about how the town would deal with the expected influx of people wanting to watch the race.
He said these included the provision of portable toilets, car parking and the timing of road closures.
He asked: “How will that affect residents in Silsden trying to get to jobs outside the town?
“Local people are being encouraged to organise their own activities to support the Tour, but information is still missing. However, this hasn’t stopped the enthusiasm and entrepreneurial spirit of people.”
