Pupils from two schools planted trees around the new Community Hub in Steeton during National Tree Week.

With the help of a grant from the Tree Council, youngsters from Steeton Primary School and Eastburn Junior and Infant School planted six trees at the site on Skipton Road.

All were native species such as rowan, whitebeam and silver birch.

The trees will replace those lost when the hub was built and the planting was organised by Steeton-with-Eastburn Parish Council, which owns the site, with help from Bradford Environmental Action Trust.

“We are delighted that pupils from Steeton and Eastburn schools decided to make a difference through tree planting and in doing so, to emphasise the need to keep up the diversity of species in the area” said the Tree Council’s director general Pauline Buchanan Black. Parish council chairman David Mullen added: “Steeton-with-Eastburn Parish Council is grateful to the financial help given by the Tree Council to enable the replacement of trees on this site.

“We are sure they will be enjoyed by users of the Hub and the play area.”

The parish council is now seeking funding to revamp the play area next to the Hub so it is accessible for two to 12 year olds.
