Airedale Hospital has been highly commended in a national guide.

It is one of only eight NHS trusts to have improved its weekend mortality rates, according to the Dr Foster guide.

And the independent assessment has identified that Airedale NHS Foundation Trust had low mortality rates for both weekdays and weekends.

Bridget Fletcher, the trust’s chief executive, said: “We are delighted to feature as one of only 12 highly commended trusts in the national 2013 guide.

“This is a fantastic achievement for our staff and recognises the hard work they do every day to make sure the care that patients receive is of the highest quality, provides successful outcomes and is carried out with the same level of safety during the weekend as during the week.

“Our consistently higher- than-expected survival rates over the past three years are an indication of our constant focus on providing high standards of safety and quality of care to our patients seven days a week.

“Care out of hours and on weekends is as important as the care patients receive during the week and I am particularly pleased that our weekend mortality rates have improved since last year.”
