A health care worker from the Dales drove off in a new luxury car after winning the top prize in a local NHS draw.

Mother-of-two Wendy Hall, a vascular sonographer at Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, collected her brand new Suzuki 4x4 SZ5 from trust chairman David Richardson.

“When I got the call to say I’d won, I was totally speechless,” said Wendy. “I’ve been a member of the prize draw for over 20 years and I won £25 a decade ago which I used to buy cream cakes for the department.

“To win the top prize of the car is just unbelievable and very lovely. Christmas has come early for me and the feel-good factor from the win has given the whole department a real boost in the run-up to Christmas.”

Wendy travels 28 miles each way every day from her home in Conistone-with-Kilnsey to Bradford Royal Infirmary. She has worked for the trust full-time from 1978.

Wendy won the top prize in the local NHS’ 50:50 staff lottery, a staff scheme and registered charity run by Bradford Teaching Hospitals and Bradford District Care Trust.

Staff donate at least £1 a month to the lottery.
