All pupils at Giggleswick Primary School took part in a Pirates’ Day to complete their whole school topic, Big Splash.
Many came dressed as pirates and during the day, they learnt how to caulk the timbers, push the capstan, throw the grappling iron and pike their enemies!
They also used maths and English skills to solve problems involving cannon balls, hunting for treasure and baking gem biscuits. In addition, each child made a panel for a sea creatures’ collage and sang sea shanties.
Headteacher Anne Michelmore-Brown said: “We all had a great time. The staff team organised many imaginative cross-curricular activities which fully involved all pupils working in mixed-age groups and at the end of the day, when they collected their cooled biscuits, the pupils were relieved that they did not contain any weevils!”
