Driver was unaware insurance had expired
2:23pm Thursday 2nd January 2014 in News
Daniel Granger, 25, was told by the police officer to produce his insurance documents later because he had insisted he was covered and the officer was unable to check because the Motor Insurance Bureau had not opened for the day.
But Granger discovered his insurance had run out just six hours previously.
Granger, who admitted using a vehicle without insurance on October 22, told the court it had been a genuine mistake, he had re-insured his car immediately and he would keep a closer eye on his documents in future.
Magistrates told Granger, of Hebden Road, Haworth, they believed it had been a genuine mistake, but that they had no option but to endorse his licence with six penalty points.
They did however, lower his fine to £100, and ordered him to pay a £20 victims surcharge, but with no court costs.
