Pupils from a Barnoldswick high school got the chance to experience a live performance of a Dickens’ Christmas classic.

Thirty two year eight students from West Craven High Technology College were taken to see A Christmas Carol at the Dukes Theatre in Lancaster.

Transport costs for the trip were met by school’s PTA and a McDonald’s lunch afterwards was paid for by Pendle Engineering in Nelson.

English teacher Gail Hargreaves, who arranged the trip, said: “Several students had previously studied a Dickens novel in class. The Dukes Theatre is a fantastic venue, and with the performance played ‘in the round’, the audience almost felt a part of Scrooge’s transformation. Without the very kind support from the PTA and Mr Hargreaves from Pendle Engineering, this trip probably wouldn’t have been accessible to as many students, who all thoroughly enjoyed the experience.”
