A Barnoldswick cupcake and cake-decorating shop has won a top trade award.

Purple Cupcakes won Outstanding Achievement in Importing at the International Trade Club Awards, which recognise the contribution of exporters and importers.

The Church Street shop, which has been trading for three years, was recognised for increasing sales dramatically throughout the year, while reducing the overall cost from the previous year, which highlighted its strong negotiation skills.

Starting from making cupcakes, the business expanded into workshops and classes and, over the past two years, has created its own bespoke designer range of cake and cupcake equipment.

It now wants to expand its range, along with the supply chain, and hopes to increase exports and secure new markets.

“I was taken aback when we received the award,” said owner Stephanie Clarke.
