The Yorkshire Dales Society will be focusing its attention on Skipton on Saturday.

Jean Robinson, chairman of the Friends of Raikes Road Burial Ground, will lead a free walk around Skipton, including an extended visit to the forgotten burial ground which gives an insight into the town’s Victorian community.

Graves include those of Rudyard Kipling’s grandparents and the Rev William Cartman, who officiated at the funeral of Charlotte Bronte.

Those wishing to take part in the walk, which will last about two hours, should meet outside Skipton Library at 10.30am.

And, in the afternoon, noted historian Dr David Johnson will share his research on historic pubs in the Dales at St Andrew’s Church Hall, on Newmarket Street, from 2.15pm.

Admission is free for YDS members and £3 for visitors.
