Owners of The Russian Tea Room in Skipton have blamed poor trade for its closure less than a year after it opened.
Steve and Olga Penney said an “unprecedented period of quiet” coupled with Olga’s deteriorating health had led to its closure last week.
“Due to Olga’s deteriorating health, which has coincided with an unprecedented period of quiet, at best, retail activity – nationally, but Skipton especially – we have been forced to close down,” they said.
Mr and Mrs Penney added they, and their staff, would like to thank all the customers who had “enjoyed the tea room’s unique retail offering”.
The Tea Room, a cafe and restaurant which also sold gifts in its emporium, was opened in February last year following a pre-launch party with some of the Calendar Girls and BBC Look North presenter, Harry Gration. It also received a formal blessing by a Russian Orthodox Arch Priest.
