The Ribble Rivers Trust is planting a new woodland alongside the River Ribble at Knight Stainforth Hall Caravan Site near Settle.
And members of the public are invited to go along on Saturday to help plant the 5,000 native trees, which will make a big difference to the river environment.
Settle Scouts, Ingleton Scouts and Yorkshire Dales Junior Park Rangers have already pledged their assistance.
As well as reducing river pollution and mitigating against the effects of future climate change, the new trees will provide good habitat for an array of wildlife, including salmon and trout, otters, birds and riverflies.
Volunteers are asked to arrive for 9am to help with the planting and everyone is welcome, including beginners (although under 16s must be accompanied by a parent or guardian).
Parking is available at the caravan site and volunteers should bring wellies, waterproofs and a packed lunch.
The new woodland is being funded by the Forestry Commission and is part of a larger project to improve the rivers in the entire upper section of the Ribble Catchment under Defra’s Catchment Restoration Fund.
