Kettlewell Scarecrow Festival has handed out nearly £29,000 raised at last year’s event.

The main beneficiaries were St Mary’s Church, the local school and the village hall, but smaller donations have been made towards Kettlewell Toddlers, the cricket club, village fireworks, lights for Christmas trees, replacement of the war memorial tubs, the parish council website, Tour de France activities, the Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue Association’s Three Peaks challenge, the swimming club and Buckden schoolroom.

Meanwhile preparations are being made for this year’s festival which will run from August 9 to 17.

Jennifer Cuthbert and Wendy Nightingale, who have been in charge of organising the festival catering in the village hall for the past ten years, want to hand over the responsibility.
