Police have renewed their appeal for information after a Threshfield man was found at the bottom of a canal bridge steps.

Ian Martin, 68, died from his injuries in hospital after being found at the bottom of the steps leading to Skipton’s Gas Street at around 6.30pm on Thursday, January 9. Officers do not believe there are any suspicious circumstances, but they want to hear from anyone who may have travelled with Mr Martin on the 72 bus from Threshfield to Skipton.

A jogger, who stopped to help and who was the subject of an earlier appeal, has spoken to the police.

Mr Martin, who would have arrived at Skipton Bus Station at around 6.25pm, is described as looking young for his age. He was 5ft 7ins tall with white-grey hair and was wearing a dark blue Barbour jacket, blue jeans and brown shoes.

After getting off the bus, he is thought to have crossed the footbridge leading to Gas Street, where he was found with head injuries. He was taken to Airedale Hospital, but died from his injuries.

Police say they are grateful to those who have already come forward, but they still want to talk anyone who saw Mr Martin either on the number 72 bus or walking through the bus station or over the canal bridge.

Anyone who can help is asked to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option 2 and ask for Skipton CID.
