Skipton MP Julian Smith visited Kilnsey Park Estate in Upper Wharfedale to hear about issues facing rural businesses.

He met managing partner Jamie Roberts and discussed his plans to mark the Tour de France’s Grand Depart in July. The estate is hoping to hold a four-day “velo-festival” of cycling and music, expected to attract 10,000 people.

Mr Smith said: “I enjoyed being able to visit the estate and hearing at first hand from Jamie about the issues and challenges they face. Rural businesses like Kilnsey Park play an important role in the economy of Craven and I am committed to doing all I can to support them both now and in the future.

“Kilnsey Park is a prime example of a business seizing the opportunity presented by the Tour de France coming to Yorkshire.

“I would urge other businesses to think big and make the most of this once-in-a-lifetime event.”
