'Mindless vandals' target Holy Trinity Church, Barnoldswick
2:55pm Thursday 30th January 2014 in News
A churchwarden has hit out at “mindless vandals” for causing more damage at a Barnoldswick church.
Mark Williams, churchwarden at Holy Trinity Church, is upset that the Gisburn Road church has been targeted for the third time in 14 months.
He said damage to a window above the main entrance to the church occurred overnight on Saturday.
Mr Williams said: “It was near to the entrance, so we literally had to clean up glass just minutes before families with children came into the church for the 10am service, which also had a christening.
“It is complete disrespect not only to the church, but to the community as a whole because the church is there for the community.
“If these mindless people who do this ever need to use the church and their families and broken windows are present, then we hope they will see what a mess and distraction it is.
“On Sunday, it was very wet and windy and this was blowing into the church. The window will cost £150 to repair and on top of that there is the heat loss.”
Windows and flagstones were damaged in separate incidents at Holy Trinity in June, 2013, and November, 2012.
“It is very expensive to keep the church going and funds are stretched,” said Mr Williams.
Mr Williams said police were investigating.
