Ermysted’s Grammar School hosted year 11 boys from Aireville and Upper Wharfedale for the first sixth-form taster day.

Ermysted’s deputy head David Clough organised the day with head boy Izaak Beck and deputy head boy Jack Baker.

Visiting boys were paired with sixth-former mentors from the Skipton school for the day’s activities, which included practicals in science, visits to classes and discussions with teachers.

Jamie Coultas, from Upper Wharfedale, said: “Today has been a great help and gave me not only an insight into the subjects I wish to study but a good feel for the school.

“Everyone has been very welcoming and I’m more comfortable about the school now.”

Jax Duerden, from Aireville, added: “The prefect I was paired with was very helpful showing me round and giving me some experience of what the sixth form is really like.

“I think the day has been a great success and has made me realise that I would enjoy this school and it has made me want to come to Ermysted’s sixth form.”

Mr Clough said Ermysted’s had perceived a need to give boys joining the school a better idea of what A-level study involved.
