Linda Dalton, a member of Skipton Town Council, has died. She was 62.
Mrs Dalton, who was born Linda Bates, was born at the former Cawder Ghyll Hospital, Skipton, brought up on Rowland Street, and raised her family on Ramshaw Drive She married her husband, Brian, on Cup Final day in 1969 at the Baptist Church, Otley Street.
As a child, she attended Christ Church and Aireville schools, and afterwards went to work as a weaver at Mark Nutters, Sackville Street. From there, she entered the nursing profession working at Raikeswood Hospital, Skipton, and then at Airedale Hospital as an auxiliary nurse. While at Airedale, she was the grand secretary of Unison.
After she retired, she continued to help others and was elected onto Skipton Town Council in May 2011, serving on the public services and audit and scrutiny committees. She also represented the council on the Greatwood and Horse Close Community Association, Skipton Chamber of Trade and the Sylvester Petyt Charity.
When a cousin was in desperate need of a kidney, she immediately stepped forward and donated one of hers. Compassionate, caring, vociferous and at all times forceful in pursuing the best interests of others, Mrs Dalton lived all her life in Skipton, always trying to improve the quality of life for others.
Skipton mayor, Coun John Kerwin-Davey, said: “I know Coun Dalton was very proud to have been elected onto the council and she had already made significant impact with her no-nonsense input and her witty and humorous comments at council meetings.
“She will be sorely missed by her fellow councillors and on behalf of all of the town council, I’d like to pass on our sincere condolences to her family and friends.”
A funeral service took place on Friday at Christ Church, Skipton.
