Pupils at Ermysted’s Grammar School in Skipton have been praised for their showing in recent performance tables.

The school came second in North Yorkshire after Skipton Girls’ High School for its performance at GCSE.

Head teacher Graham Hamilton praised pupils and staff.

He said: “Ninety nine per cent of our students gained five or more A* to C grades, including English and maths at an average of an A grade for each entry.”

He was also pleased with the school’s value-added score, which is calculated by comparing test results at 11-years-old and performance at GCSE, with 1,000 being the average score.

“The value-added score of 1010.7 was excellent, showing that even though Ermysted’s has an academically able intake the students still perform even better than expected in the national tests,” he said.

“The A-level results were equally strong, with 98 per cent of our students achieving at least three A levels. The average point score per entry was 238.9, the equivalent of a B grade, and the value-added score was again positive at more than 0.16.”

He added the academic achievements should be seen in the wider context of what the school offered.
