Youngsters from Settle and Skipton joined fellow Brownies from Harrogate, Ripon and Knaresborough for an outing to West Yorkshire Playhouse to see The Jungle Book as part of their celebrations for The Big Brownie Birthday.

Hundreds of thousands of Girlguiding members are taking part in events to mark the 100th birthday of Brownies in 2014 – and the North Yorkshire West girls, aged seven to ten, are no exception.

The 600 Brownies marked the occasion with a visit to see The Jungle Book. The girls and their leaders almost filled the Leeds theatre and loved every minute of this special adaptation of the Rudyard Kipling story.

The trip was the brainchild of Brownie Leader Jill Jackson.

“It was a good way to start off the Big Brownie Birthday year, with Brownies from across the county joining together,” she said.

In May, 20,000 Rainbows, Brownies, Guide and Trefoil Guild members will take part in a Star Quest event at Wetherby Racecourse. For more information about The Big Brownie Birthday and how to join Girlguiding, visit girlguiding.org.uk.
