The closed public toilet block at Skipton Bus Station could be turned into a kiosk.
Leader of Craven District Council, Coun Chris Knowles-Fitton (Cons), is pushing for the facility to be leased as a kiosk, but with one of the toilets converted for disabled use.
“It would be an ideal location for a kiosk and we could also have a disabled lavatory in there too, the toilets are already plumbed in and other people could walk to the toilets at Coach Street,” he said.
The toilets closed at the beginning of the month after the council said it could no longer justify the annual £20,000 maintenance costs.
The decision to close the toilets, which were fully mechanised and included a 20p charge, was made at the end of the original five year maintenance contract.
Skipton’s Mayor, Coun John Kerwin-Davey, has already condemned the closure and criticised the council of failing the community.
A decision is yet to be made on the future of the toilets, which formed part of the £1.2 million refurbishment of the bus station in 2009.
