Fears have been voiced over plans for a 12-house development at Eastburn.

Residents living close to the site have expressed concerns over issues ranging from increased traffic to loss of privacy and the potential impact on wildlife.

An outline application has been submitted to Bradford Council for six two-bedroom and six three-bedroom homes on land south of Greenfield Farm, Main Road.

Objections have been lodged from householders in adjacent Acer Close.

Joanna Jhaj said the increase in traffic along there and on Sycamore Grove, which would provide access to the land, would be unacceptable and put people’s safety at risk.

“This is a reasonably narrow road and quite heavily parked upon,” she said.

“It would not withstand a significant increase in traffic, let alone during the building work when there would be heavy machinery and trucks using it.”

District councillor Andrew Mallinson, whose Craven ward includes Eastburn, said he shared residents’ concerns about traffic but that they had to be balanced with the need for more housing.

“It is a difficult site to develop and has remained unallocated,” he added.

“My main concern is that there’s a lot of development taking place in Eastburn and Steeton and traffic through the villages is increasing – the main road is as busy now as it was before the bypass was built.”
