Silsden man Conor Chappell has been crowned best retail meat apprentice by the UK’s Meat Training Council.

Conor, 21, has worked at Lishman’s of Ilkley for two and a half years and recently completed his level two Certificate for Proficiency in Meat and Poultry Industry Skills at Leeds City College.

He attained high scores in practical butchery skills as well as theory relating to costings, processing and the journey from farm to plate.

Conor said: “I still can’t quite believe my work has been recognised at this kind of level. It’s an incredible honour.

“My intention now is to move on to level three while continuing my full- time job at Lishman’s.”

Boss David Lishman said: “Conor’s proven to be a dedicated and talented young butcher.”

Conor will attend the prizegiving reception with his wife Vanessa in London on February 25.
