Three Craven footballers swapped their boots for running shoes to raise money for Manorlands.

Brothers Steven and Adam Procter and their 29-year-old cousin James Hordern completed York’s Yorkshire Marathon last year – and in the process raised more than £2,000 for the Sue Ryder hospice.

It was first time that the three men, who are keen sportsmen, playing football for their home village of Hellifield, had taken part in a marathon.

“It was much harder than we expected,” said Adam, 25, who runs the Settle shop of butchers Drake and Macefield with his 29-year-old brother.

Adam finished in three hours 47 minutes – 14 minutes ahead of Steven and 38 minutes ahead of James.

And, spurred on by their success, Adam and James have signed up for the 2014 Yorkshire Marathon, but this time will be running for Yorkshire Cancer Research.

Steven, however, has decided to take a break as he is due to become a father and will have his hands full.

Adam is also set to run in the Manchester Marathon in April.
