There was standing room only at a meeting at Hellifield Station to discuss its further promotion and development.

Building on the work of the two long-standing groups already involved, the aim would be to get more local people to contribute, making the grade two listed station building an even more attractive destination and a gateway for the community.

The Leeds-Lancaster-Morecambe Community Rail Partnership has offered its support, advice and assistance with funding and will work with Northern Rail to help make ideas become reality.

Hellifield Station is served by trains on the Leeds-Carlisle and Leeds-Morecambe routes and Dalesrail Sunday trains via the Ribble Valley, but there could be more.

Concerns were expressed that this initiative would be a “take-over” of the existing groups. However, assurances were given that this would not be the case, and the involvement of Hellifield Parish Council would ensure a strong voice for local people.
