A favourite landmark in Grassington’s picturesque square will soon be removed.
One of a pair of sycamore trees is in such a poor state that the parish council has decided it must be felled.
It will be replaced with a sessile oak, donated by Grassington in Bloom.
Michael Rooze, chairman of Grassington Parish Council said: “We understand there will be local attachment to the dying sycamore and therefore every measure will be taken to ensure the long term wellbeing of the new tree.
“We expect with proper care and attention the new oak, chosen for its beauty and longevity and being native to the Dales, will grow into another landmark.”
Advice was taken from Yorkshire Dales National Park senior trees and woodland officer, Geoff Garrett.
