Broughton Hall is sprinting towards a cycling extravaganza to celebrate the Yorkshire Grand Depart of the Tour de France this summer.

Owner Roger Tempest has teamed up with international bikewear experts Rapha and This Is Happening Ltd to create a spectacular four-day event for race fans and their families.

The Rapha Tempest Festival of Cycling runs in tandem with the Grand Depart's passage through Skipton.

The family estate is hoping to welcome 15,000 guests and will be packed with entertainment from July 3 to July 7.

“It's fantastic for Broughton to be at the hub of such an unforgettable sporting moment,” said Mr Tempest. “We have hosted many similar events on the estate and guarantee a first class experience for our guests.”

Broughton's business development manager Mike Lennon said: “Our website only went live three days before Christmas and there was an instant surge of bookings.

“One of Broughton's beauties is because it’s not right beside the route, people won't feel trapped and can move freely to watch the race as they wish.”

The estate has opened up special routes for walkers so they can get to Skipton within 50 minutes. There will also be cycle paths and cleaning and washing areas for vital bike maintenance.

“Tents, caravans and campervans are all welcome, plus we're also providing luxury camping in exclusive bell-tents and yurts,” Mr Lennon said. “We want there to be a real mix of camping communities and are offering purpose-built canvas villages as one of the attractions.”

Rapha is bringing a massive trade stall to Broughton.

“Of course cycling is the dominant theme and Rapha are organising their own mini-supercross event, but there will be loads of other things going on to create a great big family party,” Mr Lennon said.

“The Yorkshire Regiment will be on site, there'll be music on a big stage, beer and wine tents and lots of fantastic street foods from local producers.

“And giant TV screens will relay all stages of the race throughout the Festival – so not a moment will be missed.”
