Earby Town Council is set to take over the running of the town’s council shop.

As part of a deal that will also see the council take responsibility for the town’s public toilets, the council shop, a first floor office and car park on Victoria Road would be transferred from Pendle Council at a nominal value.

Pendle Council will staff the shop for two and a half days per week to provide advice on public matters, but payments at the shop would cease with alternative paying stations located in the Co-op, the Beer Hut and Kelbrook Service Station.

Earby councillor Rosemary Carroll said: “People are going to have to use this service or it will be lost.”

Coun David Whipp, chairman of the West Craven Area Committee, added: “This is another way of Pendle Council divesting itself of certain facilities and expecting others to take it on.”
