A chiropody, podiatry and therapy centre in Bentham is helping to support homeless people on the streets of Bradford.

Sole and Soul in Grasmere Drive has become a collection point for the Socks on the Street initiative.

It was set up in December by Bradford-based Homeless Beanies. Co-ordinator Ben Gwynne said: “The project is going brilliantly. We have had over 400 pairs of socks donated, 60 of those from the amazing people of Bentham.

“The socks have been used to support people suffering from serious deprivation as well as directly with homeless people both on the street and in shelters.

“By helping a person with something as basic as keeping their feet warm, clean and dry we are assisting them to maintain their general health, which will hopefully mean they need less contact with health services.

“Socks on the Street would love to expand, using social media.”

Another local collection point is the Friends’ Meeting House in Settle.
