A group campaigning for the restoration of Pendle’s rail link with Skipton will hold its annual general meeting next week.
Those attending will hear about SELRAP’s progress towards re-establishing the area’s rail connection with Yorkshire.
Among items for discussion will be the results of a new study carried out by ARUP, a global firm of designers, planners, engineers, consultants and technical specialists.
The report considers the social and economic case for reinstating the Colne to Skipton rail line and how it would provide connections to nearby economic centres.
The 1963 report reveals the line between Colne and Skipton was not listed for closure by Beeching and that figures show, at the time, the route between Burnley and Earby via Colne was carrying between 5,000 and 10,000 passengers per week and between Earby and Skipton it was carrying between 10,000 and 50,000 passengers per week.
However, the 11-mile section between Skipton and Colne failed to gain subsidy and was closed in 1970.
The AGM will be held at St Bartholomew’s Church, Albert Road, Colne, at 7pm on Monday. Members and prospective members are welcome.
