Plans to install more than 50 storage containers at an industrial site in Elslack have been refused.

Craven District Council’s planning department turned down an application by Brooksbank Industries to change the use of part of its site, off Elslack Lane.

The company, which manufactures wool-combing aprons and brushes for the textile industry, had wanted to install 54 six metre long steel storage containers on the western side of the site.

But the plans were opposed by villagers, including North Yorkshire county councillor Patrick Mulligan, who said they would not be good for the “visual amenity” of the area and would result in a loss of privacy, especially for residents living on adjacent Burwain Castle Road.
