The Right Rev James Bell, Bishop of Knaresborough, will give the inaugural St Cuthbert’s Lecture at The Priory Church, Bolton Abbey, on the Feast of St Cuthbert, which takes place on Thursday.

It is intended that the lecture should become an annual opportunity, both for the Priory and for the wider diocesan community, to engage in some public theology with a significant speaker.

Bishop James, who will become the first Bishop of Ripon in the new Diocese of West Yorkshire and the Dales, will give a lecture entitled ‘Cuthbert: a Christ-shaped mission’.

St Cuthbert, who lived from 634 to 687, is one of Bolton Abbey’s patron saints and is regarded as the patron saint of Northern England.

The lecture will start at 7.30pm and among the audience will be the Duke of Devonshire. Tickets are available from the church office on 01756 710238.
