Four staff at Townend Close care home in Cross Hills are putting on their running shoes.

They are joining a colleague from Anchor’s Retirement Housing to compete in the Keighley BigK run on Sunday, March 30.

The event – in aid of Manorlands Hospice – follows a multi-terrain ten-kilometre route via roads, paths and parks in Keighley.

Townend business manager Sharon Mackie said: “Staff are getting sponsors to help generate extra income for Manorlands Hospice and their work in the community.

“The team have been going for runs every day to get themselves fit and are really looking forward to taking part as they like to give back to the community.”

The team comprises care assistants Sharon Sorsby, Alvin Cruz and Donna Ashton and kitchen assistant Ellis Denton. They will be joined by Donna’s husband, Karl, who is location manager at Anchor’s Retirement Housing.

The BigK is also being supported by Steeton firm Acorn Stairlifts, which has entered 19 teams.

Operations manager Nick Wilson said: “Aside from the pride we get in raising money for a really worthy cause, it works for us from a business point of view too.”

Race organisers are still seeking more teams and individuals to get involved.

Entry for teams of five is £50, which includes a banner at the start/finish area in Victoria Park. Individual entry is £12 for adults and £6 for under-18s.

For team entries, call 01535 640176. Individuals should visit bigk10k.org.uk or pick up an entry form from a Sue Ryder shop.
