A Silsden concert party, which came together to entertain wounded soldiers during the First World War, is to be revived – for two nights only.
Silsden Community Productions will recreate The Masqueraders – an ensemble of singers and comedians which regularly visited Morton Banks War Hospital and Keighley Victoria Hospital – during the special weekend of centenary activities in August.
The main event will be an exhibition, revealing Silsden’s Story In The Great War Years, researched and compiled by Silsden Local History Group, funded by the Heritage Lottery and held over the three days of August 8 to 10.
There will be two evening performances of readings, poetry and the Community Productions’ revival of The Masqueraders. The St James’' Church knitting group, will recreate the women's committees which met daily at the town hall to knit socks, balaclavas, gloves and Christmas comforts for Silsden soldiers.
