This year’s spring lunch for committee members of the Lancaster and Skipton Rail User Group was a special one.

It marked the group’s 25th anniversary and guests included some of those involved in the founding of the group in 1989.

As usual, the event was held in the Brief Encounter buffet at Carnforth station.

Pictured under the famous clock at Carnforth station are the four original members who set up the LASRUG committee in 1989.

They are (from the left) Pam Warbrick, Colin Price, Jack Warbrick (first chairman) and Margaret Cowling.

Jack and Margaret are still members of the committee today.

Writing in the LASRUG newsletter, Mr Warbrick says: “We still have a long way to go to establish a more useful service in terms of numbers of trains, timings and quality of journey, but progress is being made year by year.

“And imagine what the situation might be, if a few determined spirits had not resolved to form a rail action group a quarter of a century ago.”
