Settle Judo Club is continuing the Olympic legacy as it marks its first birthday.

The club was set up following the London 2012 Olympics and is a partnership with the Kendal Dojo, which was used as a pre-Olympic training facility.

Coached by GB judo player Danny Harper, the club is based at Settle Primary School, with a recently-formed satellite club at Ingleton Primary School.

Chairman Richard Wright said: “One year on and the club has proved extremely popular in the area with more than 80 members and many of its students have competed in area tournaments picking up medals and at the Kendal Colour Belt Championship.

“The club has proved so successful that a satellite club has been set up at Ingleton Primary School. Now Settle and Ingleton primary schools are working to involve their judo-playing pupils in schools championships in the future.”

The judo club meets at Settle on a Friday with a sports club for six to eight-year-olds, junior judo for eight to 12-year-olds and senior club for those aged 13 upwards. The Ingleton club meets on a Tuesday.
