Twelve pupils at a Barnoldswick high school won an outdoor challenge event held on the shores of Windermere.

Youngsters from West Craven High Technology College competed against 22 teams from 13 schools across the country to win the Lakeside Schools Challenge at the YMCA National Centre. The pupils swung from trees, built platforms, climbed walls, learned archery and completed obstacle courses in wet and muddy weather to win the event.

Accompanied by teachers Alison Adams, Steve Jones and Helen Waddington, the West Craven team of Emily Holt, Emma Wallbank, Ellie McKee, Amelia Pollard, Sam Pilkington, Tasmin Preston, Lewis Wilson, Chris Richardson, Zac Smith, Matthew Ainscough, Jasper Curson and Connor Farley, set the bar high for their competitors.

Mrs Waddington said: β€œIt was a pleasure to be with them and they fought hard for their points.”

The engraved trophy was presented to the children at an assembly on Tuesday.
