Swimmers are being challenged to tackle the equivalent of swimming from Settle to Skipton and raise cash at the same time.

The challenge by staff at Settle Swimming Pool will involve swimming enough lengths to notch up 15 miles, the distance from the pool to Skipton.

The event, on Easter Monday, April 21, is to celebrate a £18,000 grant received from Craven District Council to help finance the running of the pool, which is an independent charity.

Trevor Graveson, chairman of the pool committee who is to take part, said: “We are delighted with the grant, but with ever increasing running costs, efforts must continue to secure more money.”

Those taking on the challenge will have to complete 1,200 lengths of the pool which was built in 1974.
