Youngsters in Embsay have the perfect place to play following improvements at the village recreation ground.

Funded by grants, sponsorship and fundraising activities, the improvements follow consultations with parents and the advice of a playground expert.

The work has included a new, landscaped play area for younger children, the installation of state of the art goal posts and basketball hoops and the extension and resurfacing of the perimeter path to encourage cycling.

“The improvements to the Embsay Recreation Ground represent the most extensive and far reaching project ever undertaken by Embsay with Eastby Parish Council,” said Coun Kate Dobson, who led the working party. “It has been a complex undertaking with multiple financial and logistical aspects and this is why it has stretched over a long period of time.”

The project has also stimulated the formation of a special parents’ group, Friends of the Embsay Recreation Ground, to assist in its development and in future improvements.

Coun Dobson added: “We are indebted to everyone involved and would like to especially thank Yorventure, The Big Lottery Fund, Craven District Council and Rotary Club of Skipton for their significant contributions.”
