Chocs away! Pupils of Steeton Primary School vied to win chocolate bunnies by rolling eggs as far as they could.

The children had earlier decorated the hard-boiled eggs as part of their study of Easter traditions.

They were inspired by both the Easter story and the tradition of decorating eggs in countries such as Russia and Ukraine.

There was also an Easter egg decorating competition organised by the school’s Friends group.

A school spokesman said: “The standard was very high and judging was difficult. The entries were very imaginative.”

Older children in the school presented a special assembly encompassing all aspects of Easter, including the first Passover as Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt, the events of the Christian Holy Week, and other traditions of Easter.

Kevin Wheeler, the deputy head, said: “The children had the opportunity to learn all about the religious and secular history associated with this time of year.

“The Easter bunny even made an appearance in our reception classes.”
